ABOUT THE SUMMIT
Working with children from the inside out!
May 2015, Victoria students in the Middle Early Years Classrooms will have the opportunhity to learn and sharing their experiences about finding their own peace and connection with nature in a chaotic world.
The Summit workshops provide tools that will nurture and inspire safety and the understanding of healthy individuals and communities. The children will experience values that reflect friendship all woven together by our workshop leaders through, music, story telling and culture, contemplative movement and photography and nature. We are also offering prior to the Summit an Opt In Program for Educators and Parents, a 10-month program of activities, which is a Universal Values Calendar. We encourage students to submit their work to our website for sharing.
SUMMIT PROGRAM & ACTIVITIES
FINDING AND EXPRESSING PEACE…THROUGH CONNECTIONS WITH NATURE
Participants will explore the natural world around them, in nearby parks, green spaces and shorelines, and will be encouraged to record and express their experience and connections through digital photographs that will be shared among themselves.
FINDING AND EXPRESSING PEACE…THROUGH MUSIC
FINDING AND EXPRESSING PEACE…THROUGH CONTEMPLATIVE MOVEMENT REFLECTION
For centuries, people have created and used labyrinths as a way of focusing their minds and their spirits. Labyrinths emanate from, and are part of, each person’s own environment and serve to help people make the links between that environment and inner peace. Participants will be instructed in labyrinth design, will have the opportunity to create and experience its use, and will be encouraged to take the concept back to their home communities.
FINDING AND EXPRESSING PEACE…THROUGH STORY-TELLING
Story-telling has always formed the underlying basis of human communication. Our stories are the ways that we connect ourselves to one another and to our communities. They help define who we are and where come from. Children, in particular, intrinsically understand the power of story-telling, and the summit will provide the opportunities to explore and expand their own story-telling abilities, to share their own stories and to learn from others.
